Chapter 119. Something wrong
Chapter 119. Something wrong
[Your first mission for today has arrived, and it’s an urgent one]
[Save Angeline from the bad guys who are trying to harm her]
[If you succeed, you’ll receive one hectare of land in this area—the best land with the best views]
[But if you refuse or fail this mission, the system will impose a minor penalty: deducting $100,000 from your account]
Riki, who had just finished lunch with Liz, was stunned by the mission.
After that, the system screen changed and showed where Angeline was. He was surprised to see that Angeline was actually in the same place as him.
In fact, Angeline was in the resort unit right in front of Riki and Liz.
But wasn’t Angeline supposed to be at a fashion show or something like that? Why was she in the same place as Riki?
Riki turned to Liz, who was busy taking selfies on the balcony. So, Riki used that opportunity to check on Angeline. He could see the resort unit map showing where Angeline was, and Riki could also see the map of the resort unit he had rented.
There, the locations of Angeline, Riki, and Liz were clearly visible. Then Riki also saw someone approaching; the name listed there was the manager of Angeline and Liz. Coincidentally, Angeline and Liz’s group had two female managers who shared duties due to the members’ frequently conflicting schedules.
Riki didn’t suspect that manager at all, so he looked for someone else who might have come with Angeline. And Riki found her—there was a dot with the name Hansen.
"Hansen? Is this the Hansen who likes Anton?" Riki muttered.
[No, Master, that’s a different Hansen; they just share the same name.]
"Master!!"
Before the system could finish explaining, a little fairy floated in and then bumped into Riki’s chest.
"Athena?" Riki whispered.
"Hehe, it’s me, Master! I’ve come with some exciting news!"
Riki hurried into the room so Liz wouldn’t overhear his conversation. The girl would think he was crazy for talking to himself.
After locking the bedroom door, Riki finally asked.
"Where have you been, Athena? I’ve seen you following the owner of Papillon Inc., but there’s no clear explanation." Riki protested.
Athena giggled, then grew large and hugged Riki tightly.
"You should’ve hugged me first before complaining, because I’ve missed you so much! But fine—" Athena released her embrace and sat on the bed, facing Riki, who was staring at her impatiently.
The fairy continued, "I’ll explain it briefly now. Hansen, who lives in that house across the street, is the current owner of Papillon Inc! The founder’s eldest grandson, and he’s trying to get close to Angeline to take advantage of her. You have to help that girl, because the other woman with them is Hansen’s henchwoman! If you don’t help her, that girl will suffer violence and trauma, and then she’ll be exploited for Papillon Inc.’s interests! That damn company’s interests are vast—human trafficking, dangerous poisons, drugs, and more. They even have a special team formed to act as hired killers. So, basically, that guy can be called the head of the mafia," Athena said passionately.
Riki chuckled at how adorable Athena looked while telling the story. Well, even though there was nothing funny about what the fairy was saying.
"Why are you laughing, Master? I’m serious!"
"Haha— okay, okay, I just think you’re so cute when you’re telling the story. By the way, I’m also wondering why Angeline is here, since she was supposed to be at the fashion show—"
"Fashion Week. Yeah, she did come, but in the middle of the event, her manager asked her to leave. The manager said she had to leave immediately for a perfume photoshoot. Angeline hesitated, but she still followed the female manager’s instructions. Angeline argued with her, saying she had no other schedule besides attending Fashion Week. But the manager said the photoshoot was important and Angeline would make a lot of money. Not wanting to argue, Angeline just followed the manager."
Riki nodded in understanding, then he wanted to ask something else, but he heard Liz calling his name.
"Riki! Are you inside? Come out, I want to go hiking. I’ve already changed my shoes, come on, hurry!"
"I’ll be right out! Just a minute!" Riki replied, shouting back.
"Don’t forget to put on sunscreen, Riki! It’s still really hot out there!" Liz shouted again, and then Riki heard the sound of Liz’s footsteps moving away from the front of the room.
"Sunscreen?" Riki muttered, confused.
Athena then fetched the sunscreen in question, so Riki could immediately apply it to his face and other skin exposed to the sun.
"I’ll fly around you, master, so I can help you later."
Riki nodded in agreement, then stepped out of his room and approached Liz, who was already ready.
"Isn’t it a bit late, Liz?" Riki asked.
Liz shook her head. "No, it’s fine. We can explore the resort first before heading up into the mountains."
Liz looked as if she were hiding something at that moment.
"I think she already knows Angeline is here, Master. She seems angry because Angeline won’t be honest about where she is," Athena whispered to Riki.
Since Liz couldn’t see Athena, she was confused as to why Riki suddenly nodded.
"What’s wrong, Rik?" Liz asked.
"Oh, nothing, I was just thinking it’d be better if we explored the resort first, since it looks fun. Then we can head up to the mountains. We can also refuel with some snacks first, since we’ll have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the top."
Liz nodded, "You’re right, I want to buy some young coconut ice first!"
"Okay."
Riki knew that Liz already knew Angeline was there and that she wanted to keep an eye on her. He didn’t know what Angeline had told Liz to make her so suspicious. However, Riki could understand that Angeline might have done it to keep Liz from worrying about her. But Liz was quite emotional, so the likelihood that she’d jump to the worst conclusions was very high.
Liz kept glancing at the resort unit where Angeline was, but she was disappointed because she didn’t see anything.
They had already bought the young coconut ice, drinking it in front of their resort while keeping an eye on Angeline, but there were no signs of her at all.
Until suddenly the door burst open and Angeline came out looking a mess.
"Angel? You said—"
"Liz!" Angeline didn’t wait for Liz to finish her sentence; she immediately hugged Liz.
At that moment, Liz could feel Angeline’s body trembling.
"Tell me what happened, Angel!" Liz pleaded.
Angeline turned back toward the open door. Then their manager, Sandy, came out of the door. She acted as if nothing was wrong.
"Oh my God, Angel, I already knew you forced yourself to come here to ruin Liz and Riki’s date. Stop it—you don’t need to stoop that low. Come here," said Sandy. The woman tried to pull Angeline, but Angeline immediately hid behind Liz and Riki.
"No, she’s lying! Don’t believe them, Liz! They’re the ones trying to trick me—trust me. Once I’m done, you might be the next victim," Angeline said in a frightened tone.
"Who are ’they,’ Angel?" Liz asked.
"There’s no one but me—Angeline is just lying to you. Come on, Angeline, let them go on their date in peace."
Liz turned to look at Angeline and asked, "Is that true?"
Angeline, who was already in a state, burst into tears at the question.
"So you don’t believe me and you believe her instead?" Angeline asked.
"B-but the manager is nice to us, Angel."
The two girls fell silent immediately when, out of nowhere, Riki—who had been just watching—took two steps forward to stand in front of Sandy.
"Where’s that guy?" Riki asked.
Sandy gave a small smile and chuckled softly, "Which guy? I came here with Angeline."
