Chapter 180: Thanks for the offer
Chapter 180: Thanks for the offer
Sia hesitated for a moment or two before asking, "The attack during the Ivos Gala ... Did you know it would happen that day?"
A frown cracked on my face. "What made you say so? Surely you’re not implying that I’m working for the Dark cult now, are you?"
"No, of course not." Sia shook her head. "You’re too conspicuous to be working for the Dark cult. I meant it’s just that you seem to know everything." she said.
"Now that I think about it, you seemed prepared, and even subtly on guard that day." she added.
Really? did I seem on guard? I thought I was a very good actor. No, not thought, I know I am a very good actor. If there was any reason she figured out I was on guard, it’s because of her sharp deduction, and also our close proximity at that moment. We were dancing together after all.
But still, why now? It’s been six months since the event so what made her ask now, after all this time. Still I didn’t let my composure slip.
"What nonsense are you saying? why would I be on guard?" I said sharply.
"You weren’t?" She tilted her head. "I might have been wrong then."
My eye twitched. ’You might have been wrong?’ But I didn’t say anything outwards. It was enough that her mind had already shifted from there.
"If that’s all, you can leave." I said, slamming the door on her face as quickly as I could.
"Huh!" I let out a relieved sigh. That could have gone wrong in many ways. I seemed to just know everything? I wish. I only know the general sequence of events not the ins and outs of everything.
I knew the Dark cult would definitely attack during the third day of the Ivos gala after midnight, but I had no idea the exact minute. Not that I haven’t made a way to know that ins and outs through Jayden, but I couldn’t, because for some ungodly damn reason that little shit had to disappear.
I still didn’t know what happened with him, but I had a feeling he was okay, which was also weird so to say. Maybe it was because we were connected or something. In fact I had a theory of what must have happened to him.
My guess was since Bubbles was unlike other familiars and wasn’t summoned from the familiar dimension through the orthodox ritual, when I broke through from the Eta- rank to Eta rank, the world exploited that window and dragged him into the familiar dimension. Who knows, maybe I’d have to eventually do the ritual sorcery to get him back.
But of course, those were all my speculations, no one really knew what happened to him.
I laid down back on my bed, turned around for some time, but couldn’t go back to sleep.
"Maybe I should go train." I muttered, completely overlooking the fact that my body has been miserably wrecked a few hours ago.
Nowadays it felt really weird and somehow wrong not to be able to train for some time since it had now become my habit. Gods, what was I becoming, and what the hell had instructor Black done to me?
Anyway, I stood up and headed for the training halls. As if was already evening, the dorms were starting to get busy with night life. That was no place for me however.
I made my way to the dome with a light jog. I booked a training room for three hours, but might extend my stay if I felt like it.
The obvious place to start with was the gravity room. At this point in my training, there was the only a few methods that could help. I had already maxed out my techniques with each at the grandmaster level, and I couldn’t even smell the hint of perfection mastery coming anytime close.
So apart from training under increased gravity, training with my aether and abilities sealed was another way. But there was another way, which was sparring with myself under crushing gravity levels.
I entered the gravity chamber, and increased the gravity to five times that of Nahaar for an hour. Almost immediately, a crushing burden fell on my shoulders, so much that even raising my head felt incredibly tedious.
With a tug of my will, I created a reflection with a hundred and twenty percent my stats. It was just enough to push me, without outright overwhelming me.
"Let’s begin shall we?" The reflection smiled.
-------------
The next day.
"Huaaa~"
Yawning wearily, I made my way to the staff area. I had spent the entire night doing nothing but training, and set off with classes earlier this morning, so I was reasonably exhausted.
Stopping before a private office cabin, I checked the title plate but before I could knock, a golden haired figure walked up to me.
"Hey."
"Hey."
We exchanged a greeting before I then lightly knocked on the door a few times.
"Come in."
A clear voice came from inside, inviting me to enter. Swinging the door open, I stepped into the room along with Alistair.
"Come, Mr. Darkfell."
Instructor Summers sat behind her desk, her feet crossed and resting on top of it. She played with a pen in her grasp.
As her sharp gaze fixed on me, I couldn’t help but look away from her deep emerald eyes.
Being alone with her for the first time, I felt it...
Her presence was as hazy as mist. As if daring me to approach. It almost felt as if I would be lost forever if I stepped closer to her.
I’ve noticed that Delta and Beta rankers always seemed to have a distinct presence. Edmond exuded a domineering aura, while the Vice chancellor always seemed to be enveloped in an air of grace.
Uncle Devon gave off a predatory aura, while Mother always oozed off a chilly aura.
This unintentional presence was something that oozed off them, and carried properties of their attunement.
"Come, sit."
Instructor summers took a deep breath and pointed at the large sofa before her, gesturing for me to sit down. I complied.
I didn’t know what the summon was for, but today at the end of class she suddenly asked me to come see her after the end of today’s classes. Maybe asked was a strong word, more like ordered. Her exact words were; "Mr. Darkfell, come see me in my office after class."
"Master, won’t you offer me a seat?" Alistair smiled.
At his question, Instructor Summers tore her gaze away from me and turned to Alistair. She rolled her eyes with a slight smile.
"I don’t remember you needing an invitation to barge into my office."
Jeez, I could literally feel the creeps creeping up my spine. If you want to flirt at least do it when am not around. Have some shame will you?
Alistair, still smiling, walked up and sat opposite me. It seemed that their relationship had started evolving that of mere student and teacher unknown to them.
Pfft! Unknown to them? Don’t make me laugh. These fools probably knew it deep down but haven’t just realized it yet. In the novel, Alistair was the first to realize he loved Lizzy Summers, his so called master, even though he already loved; Elsa, Delilah, Rose, Sasha, Jayden, a princess from the merfolk, a princess from the elves, and another princess from the demons.
Alistair was in essence, THE harem protagonist.
Anyway, Instructor Summers brought her gaze back to me, then brought down her legs and interlocked her fingers while facing me.
"What would you say to having a master?"
"...Eh?..." I blinked.
What was this woman trying to say? Was she implying that I become her student? What in the actual fuck!!
No, surely I must have interpreted her intentions wrong. She probably was just asking for curiosity purposes. Yes.
As if aware of my inner thoughts, instructor Summers clarified.
"I meant.... I would like to take you as my student, just like Alistair."
She really meant that!! My mind blanked. No way! No absolutely fucking way! There was no way I was letting myself come under a master.
But still I understand what triggered this situation. I must have been too awesome during these past six months that she couldn’t help but want me to be her student.
’No, no narcissistic thoughts, Damon.’ I mentally gave myself a slap. That seemed to rewire my brain, and bring out the logic hidden within.
This must be a ruse to get me to get my guard down. She is definitely trying to pry for something and wants to make me lose composure so that I’d slip or something.
Ahem!
I coughed slightly.
"Thanks for the offer, but no."
