Chapter 2355 - 2331: Fake, All Fake
"We shouldn’t have any more problems now, right?"
Gao Yang couldn’t help but underestimate as he looked at the soldiers in front of him who had mostly become excited. He felt like there shouldn’t be any more problems.
These were all battle-hardened veterans, but not the kind of jaded old soldiers who ignore your slogans and lofty goals, just following their own ideas like army ruffians. These veterans were undisciplined, ignoring military rules, but they were the kind who would sacrifice themselves for the Houthis Armed Forces.
As long as they’re not the reckless, jaded old soldiers, they still value honor highly, so Gao Yang thought that his speech should work on most of them.
As long as these people don’t unite to pull some kind of trick behind the scenes, it’s all good. The few who still want to make trouble don’t matter at all.
Having killed more than twenty people already, Gao Yang naturally didn’t care about adding a few more.
Honor is a good thing. Many were genuinely happy and excited to be selected as the most elite soldiers. After the brief commotion, someone loudly asked, "If we’re an assault team, what’s the difference from others?"
Gao Yang, without hesitation, replied, "Of course there’s a difference! A big difference! First, merely by stating you’re from the Dagger Assault Team, it means you’re the best!"
The first line was nonsense.
"When the soldiers of other units know you’re from the Dagger Assault Team, they have to salute you!"
The second line was a lie.
"You get the best treatment, the best weapons, the most ample ammunition, the best food!"
The third line was empty talk.
"But your greatest privilege is that if the name Dagger Assault Team appears alongside other units, the Dagger Assault Team must come first. When you walk with members of other units, you must stand at the forefront!"
The fourth line was an exaggeration.
All talk and no substance—what else but nonsense could it be? Gao Yang’s four points offered no concrete benefits at all.
However, these people are just willing to believe it, so what can you do.
Another round of noise ensued.
Gao Yang raised both hands and then pressed down, signaling everyone to quiet down, then said loudly with a serious face, "Brothers, what I just said isn’t possible now. Why? Because we haven’t proven ourselves yet. We’ve done nothing so far, so on what grounds can we claim to be the best? With no achievements, why should others salute you, yield to you, or prioritize you for good things?"
Having said that, Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted loudly, "So if we want to get all of this, we must rely on ourselves. It won’t take long, just a few opportunities to prove that the Dagger Assault Team is the best in Yemen! Make everyone genuinely respect us, fear us, and make our enemies tremble at the name of the Dagger Assault Team! I have this confidence because I never fail, and I am confident I can lead you to victory after victory! But do you have confidence?"
"Yes."
"Yes, we do."
These last few sentences were shouted by Gao Yang hoarsely. After he asked, the responses from those in front of him came sparsely, with varying volume, and most people said nothing.
Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted, "I can’t hear you. Are you men? Louder!"
"Yes!"
"I can’t hear you!"
"Yes!"
Over a hundred people shouted in unison, and indeed, there was some momentum. When momentum takes hold, people are easily influenced.
Gao Yang nodded with satisfaction, and said loudly, "Very good! From now on, I will observe each of your performances. The best elites will stay, unqualified cowards and weaklings will be sent away, but real warriors and elites will receive a symbol of membership in the Dagger Assault Team. I won’t tell you what that symbol is now, but you’ll know soon enough."
Gao Yang felt there should be someone to manage these undisciplined yet bold people. He looked around and found Peter to be the most suitable. This guy could fight and had that attitude from the military, so managing these people shouldn’t be a problem.
But just then, Gao Yang realized he couldn’t call Peter by his real name, and Peter didn’t have a nickname either. This created a bit of a problem.
Gao Yang pointed at Peter and made a swift hand motion, prompting Peter to quickly step forward.
"From now on, you’ll follow his orders."
Peter seemed a bit surprised, but quickly said loudly, "Yes!"
Gao Yang waved his hand and shouted, "Dismissed, go set up your camp!"
Peter didn’t leave, but stepped closer to Gao Yang and whispered, "Boss, it’s hard to manage these people outside, they’re already set in their ways. It’s not impossible to change them, but it would take too long and the success rate would be very low."
Gao Yang whispered, "I didn’t ask you to change them; they’re cannon fodder, you understand? Just feed them some motivational words occasionally, boost their morale, and create a ’best in the world’ atmosphere so they can be ready to sacrifice, and that’s enough."
Peter nodded, then whispered, "I understand everything you said, but what do you mean by ’motivational words’?"
"It’s talk that sounds reasonable but is actually useless."
"Got it!"
Peter turned to leave Gao Yang, and shouted to the cannon fodder, "Follow me."
Gao Yang breathed a sigh of relief, and after everyone left, Salim turned to Gao Yang with a bitter smile and said, "Mr. Petram, this is...a bit too much, more than twenty people, not dying by the enemy’s hands, just like this, like this..."
Gao Yang whispered, "Brother, thank you for helping me out, but if you want a particularly strong assault team, just cooperate with what I said."
Salim hesitated for a moment, then whispered, "I heard what you just said..."
Gao Yang laughed, then whispered, "My friend, who says cannon fodder has no combat power? The future of the Dagger Assault Team is bright. After most of these people die and the behavior of a real assault team has been established, you’ll have an undefeated assault team all over Yemen."
Salim whispered, "None of that matters, I can cooperate with you on anything, but what about what you said about the benefits? How’s that to be dealt with?"
Gao Yang laughed, "If the Dagger Assault Team really becomes invincible, won’t you be willing to provide these benefits that aren’t really costly at all? Hmm?"
"Uh, alright, I think we can work that out, but I’ll have to report what happened here to Abdullah, but don’t worry, I know what to say, Abdullah won’t be angry."
"Go ahead, go ahead, it’s fine, it’s all up to you, my brother."
Salim went to make a phone call, and at this time Frey approached Gao Yang, whispering, "Boss, why call it the Dagger Assault Team? Don’t you think the name is a bit vulgar and ordinary?"
Gao Yang cleared his throat and said, "There wasn’t anything to begin with, I just had to come up with a name on the spot. Besides, you all know my naming skills aren’t great, since it’s just for show, let it be."
